Land Rover records all time record
sales and improved quality Land Rover
had a bumper year recording and all time sales record for the company,
this despite recent quality issues and the pending sale of the company
again. In a recent survey by research agency Synovate on an analysis
of the problems per 100 (PP100) vehicles across the brands represented
locally, Land Rover has demonstrated the most significant
movement within the recreational category, an 86% drop in vehicle
faults. "From 752 PP100 in 1998 to 103 PP100 in 2007. This together
with the string of new models is pushing the brand back up to where it
used to be
Record local Landy
sales - 08/01/2008 06:45
Land Rover had its most successful year
ever locally with an all time sales record for a calendar year of 5
744 units.
Despite market sentiment turning
negative in the last quarter with tougher trading conditions being
exacerbated by interest rate hikes and a tightening of credit
controls, a record 674 Land Rovers found their way home to new owners
in December 2007.
Private buyers
With 99% of sales being driven through
the dealer network instead of a large percentage of fleet sale
generated packages, the figures are indicative of a strong resurgence
in local demand for Landy products by individual buyers.
Andrew Daniel, Managing Director,
Jaguar and Land Rover South Africa, said, "These fantastic sales
figures, in a background of a falling total industry volume,
demonstrate that more than ever, customers want the breadth of
capability that only a Land Rover can provide."

Land Rover for
Sale - List of Buyers emerges
The list of companies putting their
hand up and asking for the Jaguar/Land Rover sale particulars
seems to be growing by the day. But who will eventually raise the
necessary £3billion?
We reported here last week on the
possibility of Jeep and Land Rover finding themselves under the
same roof if the noises from Cerburus eventually led to them
buying the Jag/LR double-brand (they already own Jeep as part of
the Chrysler Group).
Now the sales details seem to be
heading towards the Middle East.
Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development
Company, which already owns of 5% of Ferrari, and Dubai
International Capital, which fronted up a $1billion stake in
DaimlerChrysler have both entered the fray along with a motley
crew of Private equity firms. The only notable absentees seem to
be existing car makers.

Top Gear crossing the Makgadikgadi Pans by 4x4?
Those loony characters from 'Top
Gear' are coming to Botswana to film an episode for their
unbelievably popular BBC Automobile show.
As a matter of fact, by the time
you read this piece, they may already be here. Isn't that great
news?
Well, actually... I don't think it
is.
You see Jeremy Clarkson and his
partners in crime aren't planning a scenic drive around Gaborone
or along any of our highways. Nope, they're going to drive safari
vehicles straight across the middle of the Makgadikgadi Pans -
evidently, someone let it slip that is something that has never
been done before.
The big problem is that Top Gear is
extremely popular in South Africa, and that there are an awful lot
of yobs down there who are going to see this show and think it
would be a great idea to pack up the Land Rover with 50 cases of
Castle and try a similar trip.
