This sender was purchased along with an EMS1 .The process of fitting the sender and eventually the EMS1 would have been childs play had I not tried to save time by trying to purchase an adapter to fit the sender to my Toyota diesel engine after I received the sender!
I did not buy an adapter for this VDO sender at the same time as I did not want to drain my coolant (for longer than necessary) to find out what size adapter would be needed for fitting the sender to my engine.
This VDO sender was going in my only available vehicle a series Landrover which I use daily and seeing that the Madman agent for all the southern suburbs of Cape Town was less than 5 mins down the road(BY CAR!!) I decided to wait and get the adapter after receiving the VDO sender from the Landyonline shop and by doing it that way I should be able to have the vehicle off the road because of drained coolant for less than couple of hours.
Well the VDO sender came with no hassles and full info on the progression of my order from Landyonline -Great service!!!.
But that's where my problems began as after draining my coolant and checking the adapter size I needed for the VDO sender to fit my engine (needed 16mm),I phoned (TWICE!!) the Madman agent just down the road(BY CAR!!) to see if the adapter was in stock for my engine and being told they did have the 16mm adapter.
So not wanting to refill all the coolant to just go down the road(BY CAR!!!)to pick up a basic adapter to then have to drain and refill all the coolant again on my return ,I decided to walk and pick it up.
It was hot !! it was sunny!!! It felt like I was walking the Elephant Coast in Namibia!!! and not like the 5 minutes CAR DRIVE!! when you WALK!!
Then told by the Madman agent there they don't do these adapters!!!!
Without going further into rants and raves about the whole three following days I spent trying to get the adapter from all over Cape Town I eventually had to get a friendly engineering shop to make one for me!!!
Moral of this story GET ALL THE BITS YOU NEED FROM LANDYONLINE !!!!even if you do have a recognized agent for the item round the corner!!!
AS for the sender works perfect as all VDO stuff does as there vastly superior quality and not some cheapie after market item .Gives very accurate readings with the EMS1 with no lag or cold spots ...Totally recommended!!!
